Scott Yamamoto: Hard Work, Honest Government
Scott Yamamoto’s story is one of hard work, earned experience, and a lifelong commitment to public service. He didn’t arrive at leadership by chance he worked his way there, learning every level of the job and never shying away from the tough, unglamorous work that keeps local government running.
Born in Cleveland and raised in Northeast Ohio, Scott learned early the value of responsibility and perseverance. While attending the University of Akron, he found his calling in public service appraisal work. Starting at just 21 years old as a data collector, Scott worked side by side with county offices across Ohio, gaining firsthand knowledge of how local government affects real people. By his mid-20s, he had already risen to project manager and then vice president of an appraisal firm, proof that diligence, competence, and integrity still matter.
Scott’s career has taken him across Ohio, including direct service to Ashtabula County as early as 1996. He has led reappraisals, managed complex tax and GIS systems, modernized offices, improved transparency, and introduced technology that helps governments work smarter while respecting taxpayers. Whether managing CAUV programs, overseeing reappraisals, negotiating highway easements, or ensuring accurate 9-1-1 mapping for first responders, Scott has always focused on accuracy, fairness, and accountability.
What truly sets Scott apart is that he never considers any job “beneath him.” As a township trustee, he didn’t just attend meetings he plowed roads, fixed trucks, mowed parks, and built long term plans to stretch taxpayer dollars. He understands government not just from behind a desk, but from the driver’s seat of a snowplow and the perspective of residents who expect results.
In January 2025, Scott stepped in as Ashtabula County Auditor, continuing a tradition of transparency while expanding public access to financial information and making himself visible and accessible across the county. In his first months, he visited every township, city, and village – listening, answering questions, and proving that the Auditor’s office is a resource, not a barrier.
Beyond his professional life, Scott is a devoted husband, father, and volunteer. From coaching youth baseball and supporting veterans to teaching first graders about agriculture, he has consistently given back to the community he calls home.
Scott Yamamoto isn’t afraid to work, he’s built his entire life around it. With decades of hands-on experience, deep knowledge of county government, and a servant’s heart for the community, Scott is the steady, capable, and hardworking choice Ashtabula County voters can trust.
