Born and raised in Columbus, educated in Ohio’s schools, and committed to returning his talents home, Justice Hawkins has dedicated his life to protecting families, upholding the law, and strengthening neighborhoods. His journey from prosecutor to judge to Ohio Supreme Court Justice reflects not ambition, but a calling to serve with integrity and compassion.
As a longtime Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and Director of Franklin County’s Special Victims Unit, Justice Hawkins stood on the front lines for the most vulnerable. For more than a decade, he led efforts to prosecute violent crimes against women and children murders, sexual assaults, child abuse, human trafficking, and internet predators bringing justice in more than 100 trials. His work sent a clear message: Ohio will protect the innocent and hold offenders accountable.
On the bench, Justice Hawkins continued to lead with innovation and common sense. From cleaning up dangerous nuisance properties to restoring safety and dignity to neighborhoods, he paired firm enforcement of the law with solutions that strengthened communities. His service on the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas earned high ratings from the Columbus Bar Association and respect from law enforcement and civic leaders across the region.
In 2024, Ohioans affirmed their trust in Justice Hawkins with a historic victory nearly three million votes and a margin of more than 540,000 after he visited every county in the state, listening to citizens and earning their confidence. Now serving on the Ohio Supreme Court, he brings unmatched real-world experience, a tireless work ethic, and a deep respect for the rule of law.
