Ashtabula County Treasurer Angie Maki-Cliff Declares Candidacy for Re-Election

JEFFERSON, November 29, 2023 – Today, Ashtabula County Treasurer Angie Maki-Cliff proudly reflects on two years of transformative leadership as she officially files for re-election. Since taking office, Treasurer Maki-Cliff has delivered on her promise to enhance accessibility, implement innovative financial strategies, and improve communication with taxpayers.
One of her key accomplishments has been the extension of office hours, ensuring that the Treasurer’s Office is now open to the public on a full-time basis. This move, coupled with diversified payment options and the introduction of email billing, has not only increased efficiency but has also garnered positive feedback from the community.

Under Treasurer Maki-Cliff’s stewardship, delinquent tax collection has doubled, achieving record-setting collections both in percentage terms and dollars paid. Her commitment to fiscal responsibility has not only benefited the county’s bottom line but has also contributed to the goal of a thriving and economically stable community.

In a significant win for Ashtabula County, Treasurer Maki-Cliff, who serves as the Chair of the Ashtabula County Land Bank, successfully secured a $600,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development. These funds have been allocated towards the demolition of 30 blighted and abandoned properties throughout the county, furthering revitalization efforts.

Treasurer Maki-Cliff’s proactive approach to financial management is evident in the remarkable growth of investment income. What was just over $200,000 in interest income when she took office has now surpassed $2.5 million, reaching an all-time record high for Ashtabula County.
Treasurer Maki-Cliff represents Ashtabula County on a state level by traveling to Columbus to advocate in the interest of our community. She serves on the County Treasurer’s Association of Ohio Legislative Committee and Manufactured Homes Committee. Her advocacy, support, and contributions to bills related to property taxes, foreclosures, and collections have positioned her as a respected voice among her peers.

Recognizing her ambition and expertise, the Ohio Land Bank Association recently invited Treasurer Maki-Cliff to serve on their Policy and Advocacy Committee beginning in 2024, further underscoring her dedication to serving the residents of Ashtabula County.

As a local business owner and investor, Angie Maki-Cliff has a deep understanding of local needs and a passion for creating positive change. Her re-election will focus on issues such as community development and enhancing transparency within the Treasurer’s Office.
As Treasurer Angie Maki-Cliff files for re-election, she invites the community to join her in continuing the positive momentum, shaping a prosperous future for Ashtabula County.
“I am honored to officially declare my candidacy for re-election as Ashtabula County Treasurer. Over the past two years, we have achieved significant milestones in financial management and community engagement. I am eager to build upon this foundation and continue working tirelessly for the benefit of the residents of Ashtabula County,”

Angie Maki-Cliff, Ashtabula County Treasurer.
